On the eve of the Olympic Truce—an ancient Greek tradition when city-states would lay down their arms before and during the Games—the Olympic Cross arrived from the Vatican in Milan, where the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games will take place.
This tradition reflects the old idea that people were able to set aside their differences for the sake of allowing athletes to participate in the Games. We take a closer look at the arrival of the Cross and how the local Church will be transformed into the “Church of Athletes” as it enters the Basilica of San Babila.
Meanwhile, Pope Leo sends his best wishes to all those involved in preparing for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
